We Were There: The 1999 Lexington Fairness Ordinance

  • Farish Theater-Lexington Public Library 140 East Main Street Lexington, KY, 40507 United States (map)

Activists and city leaders reunite to celebrate 20 years of the Lexington Fairness Ordinance, the first to protect LGBTQ Kentuckians from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodation. Hear from first-hand witnesses how a savvy strategy with a grassroots push achieved a civil rights dream 20 years in the making.

A reception follows afterwards in the gallery, where guests can view the new exhibit, Our Fair City: The 1999 Lexington Fairness Ordinance.

This is a free event thanks to the generous support of the Kentucky Local History Trust Fund, the Kentucky Historical Society, and JustFundKY.

Celebrations for the 20th Anniversary of the Lexington Fairness Ordinance are sponsored by the Faulkner Morgan Archive, Lexington Fairness, Lexington History Museum, and the Lexington Public Library.
