  • This list highlights some of the types of materials we accept, but it's just a starting point. If you have items you think might be of interest but you aren't sure, feel free to reach out!

    1. Photographs & Visual Materials

    • Physical photographs, digital images, negatives, and slides

    • Photo albums documenting LGBTQ events, individuals, and everyday life

    • Rare or older formats are welcome, as we have the ability to digitize them for preservation

    2. Personal Papers & Documents

    • Journals, letters, cards, and written correspondence (both physical and digital)

    • Estate papers and documents related to significant life events (marriage, coming out, activism, etc.)

    • Files from organizations, groups, or events that have impacted Kentucky's LGBTQ history

    3. Memorabilia & Keepsakes

    • T-shirts, pins, buttons, badges, bar membership cards, and event swag

    • Souvenirs from LGBTQ events, marches, and celebrations across Kentucky and beyond

    • Items that hold personal significance within your LGBTQ journey or community involvement

    4. Publications & Printed Materials

    • Local LGBTQ newspapers, newsletters, magazines, and pamphlets

    • Books written by Kentucky-based LGBTQ authors or those with relevance to Kentucky’s LGBTQ history

    • Event programs, zines, and flyers

    5. Event & Group Materials

    • Posters, flyers, and handbills from pride events, protests, fundraisers, and local LGBTQ gatherings

    • Organizational records, meeting minutes, membership lists, and financial documents

    • Board records, founding documents, or strategic plans for LGBTQ groups or non-profits

    6. Textiles & Costumes

    • Banners, protest signs, pride flags, t-shirts, and clothing worn at LGBTQ events

    • Drag costumes, outfits from LGBTQ balls, and festival attire

    • Quilts or other hand-crafted textiles with LGBTQ significance

    • Personal or public scrapbooks documenting Kentucky’s LGBTQ community or events

    • Photo albums chronicling family gatherings, friendships, or LGBTQ-related milestones

    • Cassette tapes, VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs, and digital audio/video files

  • When you donate materials to the Faulkner Morgan Archive (FMA), your generous contribution becomes an integral part of preserving and sharing Kentucky's LGBTQ history. Your donated items will be accessible for research, educational programming, and public exhibits—both physical and digital. As custodians of your donation, we ensure its preservation and careful handling to maintain its integrity for future generations.

    Here’s how we use your collection:

    1. Research Access: Materials will be open to researchers, students, and scholars, allowing them to explore and share the significance of Kentucky's LGBTQ history.

    2. Exhibitions & Displays: Items from your collection may be included in exhibits both within FMA and at partner institutions, showcasing the diversity and richness of the LGBTQ experience in Kentucky.

    3. Digital Archiving: To enhance accessibility and preservation, materials may be digitized and made available online, expanding their reach beyond physical boundaries.

    4. Reproduction for Preservation & Access: We may reproduce or reformat your items to ensure their longevity and broader availability. This ensures that your donation continues to educate and inspire for years to come.

    5. Sensitive Materials: Should any sensitive materials be identified within your donation, either by you or FMA staff, appropriate restrictions may be applied to protect your privacy or that of others. These restrictions will only last for a clearly stated period of time.
