Edward Melcarth
Melcarth 1914 in Louisville, KY was an American painter known primarily for his portrayal of the male figure. Melcarth’s subjects were blue collar workers, hustlers, addicts, and trade with whom he had intimate relationships. He Gained lots of notoriety throughout his career and spent most of it in NYC. Exhibited widely throughout NYC, he knew just about everyone: Peggy Guggenheim; Tennessee Williams; Gore Vidal; and the multimillionaire art collector and Forbes magazine publisher, Malcolm Forbes. This collection was donated to FMA by the Forbes Collection in 2018.
